PATTON TOWNSHIP – State police at Lewistown believe Stacy Henry, 37, of Philadelphia and Alicia Gardner, 29, of Bellefonte, ended up in an accident Thursday in Patton Township, because they were fleeing from police. Henry and Gardner were being investigated for trafficking large amounts of heroin into the area.
Through investigation state police had determined Henry and Gardner would allegedly be purchasing additional quantities of heroin to sale from the Econolodge on the Benner Pike. State police followed their vehicle and observed several traffic violations.
Ferguson Township police attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on North Atherton Street. At that point, Gardner exited the vehicle before being ordered back inside by Henry, who then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
While fleeing Henry struck a vehicle entering North Atherton Street and then lost control of his vehicle. Henry also struck a lamp post and street sign before going airborne, at which point his vehicle overturned onto its roof. Gardner was ejected from the vehicle.
Both Henry and Gardner were transported for medical treatment. Henry had an active warrant in Centre County from a prior arrest, state police said.
A search of the vehicle turned up 16 bags of heroin, a digital scale, a small amount of marijuana and approximately $8,000 in U.S. Currency, state police said.
Gardner and Henry will be charged with numerous drug offenses. Henry will also be facing other charges, including fleeing and eluding and recklessly endangering.
State police were assisted by the Ferguson Township, Patton Township and State College police departments.
