CLEARFIELD – PennDOT will utilize message boards and the Highway Advisory Radio System today to aid the Pennsylvania Game Commission in preventing unnecessary emergency calls.
At 10 a.m., the Pennsylvania Game Commission will begin a controlled burn on the Scotia Barrens of State Game Land 176 in Patton, Ferguson and Halfmoon townships in Centre County. Motorists traveling in areas near the burn site may notice smoke traveling from the burn site toward the Stormstown and possibly Port Matilda areas.
PennDOT will activate message boards in areas where drivers are likely to see smoke from the controlled burn. The HARS (1640 AM) will also be active in the Scotia and Port Matilda areas. Roadway users who observe smoke in the area of the controlled burn are asked to refrain from contacting emergency responders.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission expects the burn to be complete by 3:30 p.m.; however, some residual smoke may remain into the evening hours.
