PennDOT Places Speed Display Sign in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD – Motorists in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit as they travel on Route 1001 (River Road). PennDOT recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign in this area to aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign is located just south of the village of Kerr Addition, facing southbound traffic. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic.  Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 1001 is 35 miles per hour.

The speed display sign will remain on location for about four weeks before being moved to face northbound traffic in the same area.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of accidents and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as an accident cause in nearly 49 percent of Clearfield County accidents in 2012.
