DUBOIS – The DuBois City Council plans to explore putting in a traffic light at the intersection of West DuBois Avenue and First Street near the DuBois Harley Davidson store.
Councilman Edward Walsh reported he’d received many calls for traffic problems at the intersection. He described the traffic situation as bad there and expected that it would only worsen. Walsh said more people will likely be leaving Treasure Lake via the rear gate once roadwork begins on state Route 255.
City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio said council wouldn’t have the traffic light put in this year even if it moved swiftly. He indicated that the installation costs were $250,000 and could possibly be included in next year’s budget.
Walsh then asked about the city obtaining grants. Suplizio said if council pursued the grant process it would stall getting the traffic light even longer.
When Councilwoman Diane Bernado asked,
Walsh said the state had previously advised DuBois City that it could install the traffic light; however, it would have to fund the project itself.
