Marie Elizabeth “Mary” (Matastasio) Delfosse, 88, formerly of Smithmill, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Marie Fleming’s in Fallentimber.
Born July 10, 1924 in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Pietro and Maria (Daversa) Matastasio. She was Catholic by faith.
She was a charter and lifetime member of the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post 6321 Ladies Auxiliary, Smithmill until she transferred to the Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved her flowers and watching hummingbirds.
On Dec. 1, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, she wed John “Jack” Delfosse, who preceded her in death May 9, 1992.
She’s survived by six daughters and a son, Joanne Fitzhugh and her husband, Bruce; Barbara Davidson and her husband, Denny; Jackie Freeman and her husband, Roy; Cheryl Best and her husband Jeff; and Michael Delfosse and his wife, Marsha, all of Coalport; Michelle Delfosse of Irvona; and Marie Fleming, who was also her caregiver in her later years, and her husband, Ken of Fallentimber; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson.
She’s also survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Delfosse of Ashville; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family, George and Cindy Dick and family of Irvona.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John B. Delfosse; a great-grandson, Shane Wong; a sister, Sarah J. Baum; and four brothers, John, Dominic, Pietro and Ronald Matastasio.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey. The Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey, with the Rev. Paul Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Allemansville Cemetery.
