Hattie Catherine (Bloom) Daugherty, 93, of the Philipsburg Towers and formerly of Irvona, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at her residence. She was born Oct. 9, 1919 in Irvona, a daughter of the late Jonathan and Martha Bloom.
She attended school at Irvona and served as a “nanny” in her early years for the Bratton family. She was a housekeeper for several families for many years.
She was a member of the Irvona United Methodist Church. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan (George) Knotts of Willoughby, OH and Doris (Ben) Amato of State College and a son, Chester Daugherty of Boalsburg.
Surviving are eight grandchildren, Adrian (Linda) Knotts, Brian (Kris) Knotts, John (Michele) Smeal, Rob Daugherty, Jeff (Dawn) Daugherty, Tim Daugherty, Mark (Sharon) Dougherty and Jim Daugherty.
Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Pat and Mary; a niece, Candace (Tom) Kick; a granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Knotts; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Daugherty; a grandson, Robert Eugene Knotts; two sisters, Velma and Aletha; a brother-in-law, Paul Smith; and a son-in-law, Bob Sheriff.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be in Fruit Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. until the hour of services Friday at the funeral home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Philipsburg Towers, 300 N. Front St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Richard L. Wilson officiating.
