CLEARFIELD – PennDOT has announced that $154,775 in Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding will be distributed to five municipalities located in its Engineering District 2 area. Statewide, approximately $4.7 million in grants are being distributed to 43 municipalities and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.
Under state law, fines from infractions at 21 intersections in Philadelphia supply the grant funding.
The law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted more than 268 applications, totaling approximately $25.4 million.
Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as project benefits and effectiveness, cost, local and regional impact, and cost sharing.
The five projects awarded in District 2 are:
- $8,925 to Ferguson Township in Centre County to upgrade a traffic signal with a LED signal;
- $50,000 to Patton Township in Centre County for signal upgrades at North Atherton Place;
- $3,100 to Philipsburg Borough in Centre County for a red light enhancement project;
- $22,750 to Flemington Borough in Clinton County for upgrades to the traffic light at the intersection of High and Huston streets;
- $70,000 to Lewistown Borough in Mifflin County for traffic-control signal upgrades.
