STATE COLLEGE – On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT announced that work to rehabilitate two Centre County bridges will get under way April 1. Once rehabilitation work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridges from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County.
When both bridges are re-opened in late June, area drivers will enjoy safer, more efficient travel across modern structures.
First up, is a bridge on Route 3011 (Houserville Road). Weather permitting, the bridge will be closed April 1 and a detour will be in place. Drivers will follow Township Road 376 Houserville Road), Township Road 365 (Trout Road), Route 3041 Shiloh Road), Route 150, and Route 26 (College Avenue). The bridge spans Spring Creek, in the village of Houserville in College Township. The Houserville Bridge was built in 1961, is 114 feet long and carries an average of 1950 vehicles each day.
Later in April, work will begin on a bridge along Route 1002 (March Creek Road). The bridge spans Marsh Creek in Curtin Township, near the village of Romola.
This bridge will also be closed for repair work and a detour will be in place using Route 4007 (Moose Run Road), Route 220, Route 150, and Route 1001 (Howard Divide Road). The Romolo Bridge was built in 1985, is 49 feet long and carries an average of 270 vehicles per day.
Work on both bridges is expected to last through late June and includes deck replacements, roadway paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. George S. Hann & Son, Inc. of Fort Littleton is the contractor for this $481,000, two-bridge job.
Drivers are reminded to follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
