CLEARFIELD – A Winburne woman who allowed a man to give synthetic marijuana to her two sons was sentenced to state prison Tuesday in Clearfield County Court.
Gladys Wilkinson, 43, 72 Trolly St., Winburne, currently an inmate of state prison, pleaded guilty to two counts of corruption of minors. She was sentenced to six months to two years in state prison. This new sentence will run consecutive to her other sentence.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police responded to a residence in Hawk Run on Dec. 29, 2011, where they met with the father of the victims. He told officers when he arrived home he found the two boys, 16 years old and 9 years old under the influence of something. Their father told police the boys stated they had been smoking “fake weed” that Dustin Houston and their mother, Wilkinson had given them.
Police spoke with the 16-year-old the next day. He explained that he received a text message from Houston asking the boys to meet him and Wilkinson. When they got into Houston’s vehicle, Houston asked them if they wanted “to take a hit.” He then held out a multi-colored glass pipe. The teen said no, but stated Houston talked him into it. Houston put a leafy green plant substance into the pipe and handed it to him. The teen admitted to smoking it.
The victim then told the 9-year-old they were going home. He started to walk home but then went back to the vehicle to get his brother who hadn’t followed him. When he got back, the boy was throwing up in the back seat.
The officer asked the victim where his mother was during this and he said she was in the passenger side of the vehicle and allowed them to smoke what was in the pipe.
The other boy told a similar story confirming their mother was also in the vehicle.
When Wilkinson was asked about the incident, she claimed she was not there and said she wouldn’t have given them anything to smoke.
She also pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief in two other cases. For this she was sentenced to one year concurrent probation. She was fined a total of $10 plus costs and she must pay restitution of $1,260.
The theft charges stem from an incident in Cooper Township between Dec. 21 and Dec. 22, 2011 and in Morris Township on Dec. 25, 2011, when copper ground wire was cut from utility poles. On Jan. 5, 2012 police responding to a different report at Wilkinson’s address noticed several pieces of cut copper along with cutting and climbing tools in the back of a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle seen in the area of the thefts.
A witness told police Wilkinson and Houston were stealing copper during the night to supply their synthetic marijuana habit.
Dustin Edward Houston, 27, 140 Mapes Ave., Clearfield, is also charged with two counts each of criminal solicitation, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children as well as disorderly conduct. In the theft cases, he is charged with theft, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property.
