CLEARFIELD – A 22-year-old Clearfield man who has been accused of breaking into vehicles and then brandishing a knife during a physical altercation with one victim waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Jade Allen Lines, 22, of Clearfield, has been charged with criminal attempt/theft by unlawful taking; simple assault; terroristic threats; recklessly endangering another person; disorderly conduct; and loitering and prowling at night time. Lines was originally charged with aggravated assault, which was withdrawn, when the simple assault charge was added. Lines is incarcerated at the CCJ in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at 10:41 p.m. Dec. 21, 2012, Lawrence Township police were dispatched for a male suspect who was entering vehicles in the Mount Joy Road area and carrying an 8-inch straight blade knife. He was described as a Caucasian male who was in his early 20’s and wearing an olive-colored coat.
The victim told police he was inside his residence when his dog began barking and alerted him. He observed the suspect walking down his driveway toward Mount Joy Road. Through his kitchen window, the victim observed the dome light on inside his vehicle. Upon exiting his residence, he observed footprints in the snow, which he compared to a basketball-style shoe with a round insignia near the arch of the foot. The victim observed the suspect at a neighbor’s residence. One vehicle door was open.
The victim then confronted the suspect and attempted to retrain him. At that point, the victim and the suspect engaged in a physical altercation during which the suspect brandished the knife and asked the victim if he “wanted any of this.” The victim pushed the suspect away and retreated to his residence where he contacted police.
Upon police arrival, the victim explained the footprints also led to another neighbor’s residence in the area. The neighbor was similar in age to the suspect. Police presented the victim with a line-up of potential suspects, which included this neighbor. The victim didn’t identify any as the suspect.
Police developed a confidential informant who identified Lines as the suspect. Then, police presented the victim with a second line-up of potential suspects, which included Lines. The victim identified Lines as the suspect who he’d observed and engaged in a physical struggle with. Through investigation police learned Lines was affiliated with the neighbor who was the original suspect in the case.
