UNIVERSITY PARK – Ellysa Stern Cahoy, education and behavioral sciences librarian at Penn State and assistant director of the Pennsylvania Center for the Book, has won the 2013 Association of College and Research Libraries/Instruction Section Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award. The award recognizes a librarian who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of instruction in a college or research library. Cahoy will receive a $1,000 award and a plaque at the annual American Library Association conference in June.
Cahoy says she is so honored to receive the award. “As a librarian, teaching students is at the center of everything that I do, and to be recognized for that skill and focus is simply wonderful. I have been actively involved in the ACRL Instruction Section since 2001, and it is tremendously gratifying and humbling to receive this award from my peers,” she says.
Cahoy works primarily with faculty and graduate students in the College of Education, and says she loves partnering with them to tackle their toughest research questions. She noted: “Whether we are working on a student’s dissertation topic, finding articles with similar methodologies for a research study, or exploring citation management software, such as Mendeley or Endnote, there are always new things to learn about how to best conduct and manage one’s own scholarly research.
“Just as I strive to help my students and faculty access everything they need for their research, with each year my own knowledge of the research and scholarly exploration that happens daily in the College of Education grows richer. I feel very lucky to work with such an amazing student and faculty population.”
