Coleville Bridge Work Starts Today; Detour in Place April 1

STATE COLLEGE – Work to rehabilitate a bridge on Route 3006 (Valley View Road) in Centre County will get under way today. The first week of work will take place under daylight traffic flagging but starting on April 1, the bridge will be closed and a detour will be in place. The detour will direct drivers to use Route 550 and 150. The bridge spans Buffalo Run, near the village of Coleville in Spring Township.

Once rehabilitation work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County and remove the current four-ton posting. When the bridge is re-opened at the end of the summer, area drivers will enjoy safer, more efficient travel across a modern structure.

Work is expected to last through August and includes replacement of the bridge superstructure, repair of abutments, roadway paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. The Coleville Bridge was built in 1939, is 50 feet long and carries an average of 960 vehicles each day. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor for this $710,000 job.

Drivers are reminded to follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
