CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Historical Society Board of Directors recently met to plan the opening of and repairs to the museum.
The board plans to repair the museum’s front porch roof and to install a new decorative railing along the porch roof to return the museum building to its original appearance. The museum’s eaves will be repaired and repainted this summer as well, keeping with the Victorian paint scheme for the building.
In addition, the board plans to add new lighting and electrical outlets in the basement display area, and a new cellar entrance will be installed in the spring. The board planned a work party to prepare the museum for its opening in May, while new mulch will be put down in the gardens around the building. The board also decided to have the Carriage House driveway sealed this summer.
The board reported that plans are continuing to develop for a new blacksmith’s shop at the Bloody Knox site, which will add greatly needed storage and display area for our fall festival.
The board reported that the third edition of Hunting Camps of the Allegheny Plateau, Clearfield County, has been delivered and is available for sale at $10 plus tax. They are available in Clearfield at Jim’s Sports Center, Bob’s Army and Navy, Grice Gun Shop or by calling the museum. They are also on sale at the DuBois Historical Society. The board reported progress on Bard’s journal of the “Old Bucktrails.” It is currently at the publisher and hopefully will be available in the fall.
The board reported that a new cemetery sign will be placed at Harmony Chapel Cemetery in Chest Township. Also, its new acquisitions include a large sign with the Clearfield Cheese Company logo and a photo of the 1942 Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Drill Team.
The board reported that its current membership stands at 714. Memberships are available by calling the museum or through the mail. The spring edition of The Bulletin is being prepared to publish and mail.
The museum opens the first Thursday of May and is open each Thursday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. through the last Sunday of October. The museum will be closed May 26, July 4, and Oct. 13 and Oct. 24.
