Raymond E. “Hempy” Hemphill Jr., 76, of Philipsburg died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. He was the son of the late Raymond E. Sr. and Florence P. (Beals) Hemphill born April 18, 1936 in Croft.
He married the former Connie F. Hampton on Nov., 1966 in Chester Hill. She survives him at home.
Mr. Hemphill was a Christian by faith.
He was a member of the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local 1520, Osceola Mills and of the North American Hunting Club.
Mr. Hemphill enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was employed with the Rushton Mining Company, Osceola Mills, for 21 years until retiring.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hemphill is survived by three daughters, Rosalie A. Kephart and her husband, Mark of Houtzdale, Teresa M. Bereshears of Sand Springs, OK and Wanda L. Phillips and her husband, Pastor Joseph Phillips of RD Osceola Mills; three sons, Delmar E. Henry of Philipsburg, Earl R. Hemphill and his companion, Constance Benkovich of Ellsworth and Thomas W. Hemphill and his wife, Betsy of West Decatur; two sisters, (Rebecca) Erma Bumbarger of Philipsburg and Donna Z. Fagerty and her husband, Arthur of Grassflat; a brother, Ronald E. Hemphill and his wife, Alma of Baroque; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Castle Community Church, RD Osceola Mills, with Pastor Jim Walk officiating. Burial will be at the Sanborn Cemetery in Sanborn.
There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg.
