HERSHEY — Clearfield’s Nolan Barger was defeated in the state semifinals on Saturday morning by an 11-2 score by undefeated Solomon Chisko (10-0) of Canon-McMillan. Chisko, who has bronze medaled the last two years at states, will face Chris Vasser (42-3) of Cedar Cliff in the 145 pound finals Saturday night.
Barger regrouped quickly and defeated Adam Smith (42-7) from Manheim Township by a 6-4 score to reach the consolation finals. Barger (38-2) will face the Southwest Region runner-up from Franklin Regional, Josh Shields (43-6). The winner will bring home the bronze, matching Barger’s older brother Tommy’s top finish.
A win for Barger would be the 128th of his career, tying teammate Christian Stone for fourth on Clearfield’s all-time win list.
Other District 9 wrestlers going for medals are DuBois Beaver teammates Tom Sleigh at 170 and Landon Hanna at 195, who are both wrestling for third.
District 7 powerhouse Canon-McMillan has all but sealed up the team title with 86 points and four finalists. Central Dauphin sits in second place with 72 points and two finalists.
