Kenneth E. “Big Bird” Barrett Sr., 66 of Grampian died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 18, 1947 in Stronach, Penn Township, he was the son of Boyd Wayne and Beulah (Seger) Barrett. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville.
He worked for various coal mining companies as a truck driver and as a heavy equipment operator.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and riding motorcycles with his ABATE family. He was a member of ABATE of Pensnsylvania Chapter Chinklacamoose District 5 Chapter 6. He had been the Road Captain of ABATE since 2012. He was a former member of Curwensville VFW, Clearfield Eagles Aries #812 and Curwensville Moose. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
On June 5, 1965 in Clearfield, he wed Nellie “Pat” Galio, who survives along with five children, Jamie Sue Clutter and her husband, Rodger of Curwensville, Brenda Lea Bloom and her husband, Tim of Stronach, Toni Polites and her husband, Bill of Grampian, Kenneth E. Barrett Jr. and his wife, Yvonne of New Millport and Wayne Anthony Barrett and his wife, Krista of West Decatur.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judith Rosborough and her husband, James of Luthersburg and JoAnne McCracken and her husband, Richard of Lumber City; one brother, Randy Barrett and his wife, Apryle of Bells Landing; two step-sisters, June Pack and Janet Tapper and her husband, Harold, all of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Cora (Davis) Fleming, an infant sister, two step-brothers, Thomas “Snuffy” Fleming and Jeff “Flint” Fleming, a step-sister Gail Henderson and an aunt, Betty Seger Fritch.
Funeral services for Mr. Barrett will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with Mr. Bud Stiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home. A L.O.O.M. Memorial Service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
