CURWENSVILLE – Members of the Rescue Hose & Ladder Co. are preparing for their annual ambulance membership mailing to be held on March 1.
The annual membership drive provides funds for the ambulance service to operate for the entire year. The ambulance service does not receive tax monies. The “EMS tax,” or Emergency and Municipal Services tax, is designated for police, fire and roads; it is not for emergency medical services.
RH&L Ambulance relies completely on membership, donations and insurance reimbursements for all operating expenses.
Curwensville’s ambulance service has not closed and simply reorganized and relocated to the fire station. It’s now under new leadership with both business and emergency medical services experience. In addition, it’s changing some business practices of the past.
“We are now running a leaner business operation and being very careful about how we spend our limited funds. We are slowly rebuilding and hoping to add additional employees to cover more shifts as soon as our financial situation improves. Even though we are cutting spending, our standards for patient care and our dedication to the community have never been higher. I want the residents of the Curwensville area to know we are here to stay,” said EMS Chief, Scott Rummings.
The membership mailers will have a new look this year. Past mailings were an envelope containing a card and another envelope. This year the mailer becomes the return envelope when the flap is removed. It’s a modernized design that’s not only new, but also more effective.
Additional membership mailers are available for anyone who lives outside of the Curwensville area but visits often, who would like to buy a gift membership for someone living in the Curwensville area or who normally receives a membership mailer but does not by March 15. Any interested contributor should contact the business office at 814-236-3111 to request one. Memberships will also be available this year for businesses and organizations, such as clubs or sports teams. Membership applications can also be picked up or dropped off at The Smokehouse.
