CLARION — The coaches from the newly alligned District 4-9 Wrestling Tournament met on Sunday at Clarion High School to dole out the seeds for the upcoming tourney on Friday February 22 and Saturday February 23 at the Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on the Clarion University campus.
The “Big 3” senior trio from Clearfield – Dylan Graham at 126, Christian Stone at 132, and Nolan Barger at 145 – each garnered number one seeds.
Other top four seeds for Clearfield were number two seeds Josiah McClarren at 113 and Noah Cline at 120, and number four seed Jake Verchick at 285. Clearfield did not enter anyone in the 170, 182, 195, or 220 classes. Other Bison set to compete are Logan Gilbert at 106, Jon Sponsler at 138, Mike Beck at 152, and Grant Climie at 160.
The top four finishers in each weight class will adavnce to the AAA Northwest Regional Tournament in Altoona the following weekend.
In addition to the five traditional District 9 teams – Clearfield, DuBois, Punxsutawney, St. Marys, and Bradford – four teams from District 4 will join the fray – Williamsport, Shikellamy, Jersey Shore, and Selinsgrove.
Defending champion DuBois easily led with seven number one seeds.
