PHILIPSBURG — Christian Lezzer led a three-pronged attack with 21 points and unlocked the final tie with a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter as Clearfield squeezed past Philipsburg-Osceola 56-53 in Mountain League schoolboy basketball action Tuesday night.
Trey Jordan and Seth Beardsley chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bison, who gained revenge for a 49-47 home-court loss to the Mounties on January 15 while snapping a four-game losing streak.
“Both teams played hard and it probably was a fun game to watch,” Clearfield coach Forrest Campman said. “We played solid defense, and we rebounded pretty well.”
The Bison, now 6-14 and 3-9 in the ML, jumped out to a 12-2 lead with Beardsley draining a pair of three-pointers but were outscored 34-26 in the middle periods to trail 40-38 going to the fourth quarter.
They pulled it out by ringing up 18 points, Lezzer canning eight points and Jordan adding four before they fouled out.
Those two combined for 13 points in the second period to keep the Bison on top 29-26 at intermission.
Matt Carpin scored 20 points and Eric Nartatez netted 15 for the Mounties, who are 5-15 with a 3-10 league record.
Clearfield’s jayvees also were victorious, 38-31, as Erik Sellers led the way with 18 points.
The Bison go to Huntingdon Thursday and entertain Penns Valley Friday in Mountain League make-ups.
