Kathryn (Russin) Kowalcyk, 91, of Madera died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Michael and Madeline (Lazeration) Russin.
She was a life-long parishioner of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Madera, where she was parish secretary and a member of the Ladies Guild for many years. She also was a member of the parish choir.
She was a homemaker.
She was married to Andrew Kowalcyk, who preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2006.
She is survived by three sons, Fred Kowalcyk and his wife, Yvonne of Seven Hills, OH, Eugene Kowalcyk and his wife, Teresa of Richmond Heights, OH and Ed Kowalcyk of
Houtzdale; three grandchildren, Michelle Kaifas and her husband, Steve, Jeff Kowalcyk and Connie Kowalcyk; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Grant Kaifas.
She’s also survived by three sisters and one brother, Judy Reifel of Lodi, NJ, Ann Sabol of Ramey, Christine Ferlitch of Madera and Peter Russin of Rio-Rancho, NM.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Susan Rocca, Mary Russin and infant sister, Anna; three brothers, John, Michael and Theodore “Frank” Russin.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Madera and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Madera. A Pahkhida services will be sung on at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Madera with the Rev. Fr. David Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Madera.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, C/O William Zapsky, 1965 Vulcan Rd., Madera, PA 16661.
