UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State men’s lacrosse was voted second in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association poll and earned four student-athletes on the preseason All-CAA team on Friday (Feb. 1). The voting was conducted by each of the league’s head coaches.
Penn State earned 31 votes, second most to defending champion Massachusetts (35). The Nittany Lions garnered two first-place votes, while the Minutemen earned the other five. Drexel and Hofstra were voted third, while Delaware, Towson and Saint Joseph’s rounded out the seven-team conference.
Four Nittany Lions – Jack Forster (Jenkintown, Pa.), Nick Dolik (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Kessler Brown (Springfield, Va.) and Austin Kaut (Morton, Pa.) – were named to the 2013 Preseason All-CAA Team. Kaut is a two-time All-CAA First Team honoree, while Forster and Dolik each have made appearances in the postseason awards list for the CAA.
Forster is one of three attackmen along with CAA Preseason Player of the Year Will Manny of Massachusetts and Drexel’s Robert Church. Brown was named to the team as a long-stick midfielder, and along with Kaut, are two of the three non-seniors on the preseason team. Twoson’s John Fennessy is a junior defenseman.
Massachusetts and Penn State led the way in the conference with four preseason selections, while Hofstra had three. Drexel and Towson had one representative apiece.
The Nittany Lions, with a preseason No. 15 national ranking, hold a scrimmage tomorrow at Holuba Hall against fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m. The scrimmage is open to the public and free to attend. All fans in attendance will receive team posters. The Penn State regular season campaign kicks off Saturday, Feb. 9 at Michigan.
