TYRONE — Another cold shooting night for the Clearfield Area High School boys basketball squad, as the Bison fell to Tyrone 61-38 Wednesday night.
Visiting Clearfield did, however, take a 10-8 first quarter lead only to go cold over the middle two periods, scoring just a total of 13 points as Tyrone pulled away for the win.
The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, put up 38 points over the middle 16 minutes to send the Bison down to their 13th loss of the year with five wins.
Clearfield was paced on offense by Trey Jordan, who dumped in 13 points.
Tyrone got 22 points from Brandon Gripp and 15 from Jordan Miller as the Golden Eagles defeated the Bison for the second time this season.
Clearfield lost to Tyrone the first time around this year, 61-52, on the Bison home floor.
Bison head coach, Forrest Campman, afterwards said, “We were up 10-8 after the first period, then the Miller kid got hot and we started to shoot poorly. I don’t think we played that badly, we just shot the ball, as I said, poorly. In the third (quarter) we just couldn’t make a basket and couldn’t stop any of their runs because of that. I do feel we played better tonight than we did the last two games though.”
The junior varsity contest was also won by the Golden Eagles, 61-38. Andy Brown had 12 and Erik Sellers 11 for Clearfield.
Clearfield entertains Penns Valley Friday night as JV action starts at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
Penns Valley defeated the Bison in January, on its home court, 44-23.
