UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Nittany Lion women’s tennis team (2-0, 0-0) moved up to No. 49 in the ITA Team Rankings this week after a pair of victories in Akron last weekend. Penn State took over the No. 49 spot, switching places with the Indiana Hoosiers who went from No. 49 to No. 50.
This is the 15th straight poll Penn State has been ranked in dating back to last season. The last time the Nittany Lions have been ranked this high in the team poll was when they were No. 47 during the week of April 3, 2012.
Including Penn State, 10 Big Ten Conference teams earned a spot in the poll this week. Northwestern tops the list at No. 14, dropping one spot from last week. Penn State’s non-conference opponent, College of Charleston, is also in the polls at No. 62.
The Nittany Lions look to climb even higher in the rankings this weekend when they open up their home schedule against Temple at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sarni Tennis Center.
