PENFIELD – The Clearfield YMCA’s Winterfest event will be held Jan. 26-27 at the Parker Dam State Park. The event will have lots of activities for everyone. The Hilltop Howlers will have a snowmobile fun run and are asking all participants to register at Pavilion 7, starting at 9 a.m. Trails are being groomed for the event, and all snowmobiles must be registered to participate.
The Blizzard Volleyball Tournament will start at 11 a.m. It will be played on the beach with relaxed volleyball rules and lots of snow. The entry fee is $20 per team, and teams need to pre-register by calling the YMCA at 814-765-5521. Everyone will have the opportunity to learn to ice skate at 10 a.m. Some skates will be available. Then, they will learn how to ice fish at 12 p.m. and finally try out snowshoeing at 2 p.m. Weather permitting avalanche hill will be ready for sledding, and restroom facilities will always be open.
Sunday’s events will begin at 12 p.m. with an ice harvesting demonstration like they used to do in the good ole days. Also, you’ll learn all about the birds that are in our area during the winter months.
The kid’s snow box derby registration will begin at 12 p.m. and will get under way at 1 p.m. Have your child decorate a cardboard box and slide down avalanche hill.
You’ll learn all you need to begin ice fishing at 1 p.m., and a Frozen Salami Sling will take place at 2 p.m. You’ll see how far you can throw a frozen salami. You’ll be able to try out snowshoes at 2:30 p.m.
Then, bring your swim suit and run in the “almost” naked mile at 3 p.m. Hats and mittens are allowed. And, the annual Polar Bear Swim will be the last event of the Winterfest at 4 p.m. There is still time to register if you dare by calling the YMCA at 814-765-5521. .
Both days a concession stand will be open and depending on weather conditions all activities planned will take place. Be sure to bring your winter gear, sleds and skates for Winterfest.
