Louis Joseph “Louie” Carfley, 96, of Curwensville died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
Born Nov. 7, 1916, he was the son of Patsy and Catherine (Barbatto) Carfley. Mr. Carfley was retired from the former Howes Leather in Curwensville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville.
Mr. Carfley was a Fourth Degree Member of the Clearfield Council Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co., a member of the Fire Co. Drill Team and a member of and past president for many years of the former Curwensville Sons of Italy. He also was a member of the 1936 Curwensville High School football team that played in the state championship.
On June 24, 1950 in Curwensville, he wed the former Sarah J. “Sally” Bunnell, who preceded him in death on March 14, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Samuel, Michael, Tony, Joseph “Mose,” and Raymond Carfley; two infant brothers; two sisters, Bessie Fernando and Elizabeth Carfley; and an infant sister.
Surviving is a brother, Albert Carfley and his wife, Peg of Curwensville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
The family suggests contributions be made to either St. Timothy Church Memorial Fund or the Curwensville Public Library.
