OBERLIN, Ohio — A standout in the Oberlin secondary for the last three seasons, senior David Kalgren (Curwensville) was selected as one of the four defensive backs for the 2012 All-North Coast Atlantic Conference First Team.
The 6-0, 195-pounder, who earned All-NCAC Second Team laurels in 2010 and 2011, led the conference with seven interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns, and also broke up seven passes for the Yeomen’s unit that finished third in the 10-team NCAC in pass defense.
He picked his way into the Oberlin record book for interceptions in a season as well as a career (13). Both totals are tied for second place.
Kalgren currently is tied for fourth on the NCAA Division III interception list, and his 133 return yards rank No. 11. He is one of only eight Division III players with multiple TD returns.
Kalgren was involved in 48 tackles, including 37 solo stops.
His 8.47 average for 17 punt returns ranks No. 63 in Division III.
He also returned 11 kickoffs for an 18.73 average.
In addition, Kalgren got to see action on offense late in the season and caught four passes for 91 yards and one touchdown. He had a touchdown pass nullified because of a penalty.

FRESNO, Calif. — Senior kicking specialist Parker Herrington (Clearfield) booted one extra point for Air Force (6-5) in a 48-15 loss to Fresno State (9-3) in their Mountain West Conference finale that attracted 36,240 fans into Bulldog Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons wound up fourth at 6-3 in the MWC, while the Bulldogs own a share of the title with San Diego State, and possibly Boise State, at 7-1.
Herrington’s team-leading 56 points are tied for eighth in kick scoring in the conference. He’s made 44 of 45 PAT tries and four of 10 field goal attempts.
Air Force will play in the Armed Forces Bowl at Fort Worth, Tex., on Dec. 29.

LORETTO — Redshirt freshman linebacker Andrew Redden (Clearfield) saw action for the first time this season on the St. Francis (5-6) kickoff unit Nov. 17 as the Red Flash defeated visiting Sacred Heart (Conn.) 44-24 in front of 1,507 fans at DeGol Field to finish with a 4-4 record in the Northeast Conference.
Redden has appeared in six games over two seasons with one tackle, an assist and one punt return.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Because of a season-ending knee injury he suffered in Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s previous game, freshman running back Alex Holland (Curwensville) did not play in the Crimson Hawks’ 17-14 upset of previously-undefeated New Haven (Conn.) in their NCAA Division II Super Region One semifinal Saturday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champions, who ranked No. 11 in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll and No. 12Â in the D2football.com Medial Poll at the end of the regular season, relied on their rugged defense throughout the scoreless second half after grabbing the lead 24 seconds before intermission to quiet the crowd of 2,034 at DellaCamera Stadium.
IUP (12-1) was seeded No. 3 for the six-team regional, while Northeast 10 Conference champion New Haven (10-1) was the No. 2 seed after being ranked No. 3 in the AFCA poll and No. 4 in the D2football.com poll.
In its first trip to the third round of the Division II postseason for the first time since 1999, IUP must travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., Saturday to test Super Region One top seed Winston-Salem State (12-0).
The No. 2-ranked Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association champions ousted PSAC Eastern Division titlist and No. 15-ranked Shippensburg 37-14 Saturday to advance to the national quarterfinals.
