PUNXSUTAWNEY – There will be family gatherings, Christmas shopping trips and the opening of deer season. All make the Thanksgiving holiday one of the heaviest traveled weekends of the year.
State police urge motorists to be patient and cautious of other motorists to avoid accidents. They said this holiday weekend typically has the most alcohol-related accidents and deaths of all other celebrated holidays.
“Don’t become a statistic. Don’t drink and drive and remember impairment begins after the first drink,” state police said.
State police also reminded motorists that the weather is unpredictable at this time of the year. They said motorists should be prepared for less-than-normal driving conditions. State police said motorists can promote their own safety by winterizing their vehicles.
“Please drive carefully and remember seatbelts and properly installed car seats do save lives,” state police said.
