UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State senior linebacker Gerald Hodges (Paulsboro, N.J.) was chosen as the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3 "Ironman of the Game" for his performance against the Purdue University Boilermakers. Hodges received the most fan votes of the four nominees this week to win these honors for the second time this season.
Hodges played an instrumental role in limiting Purdue’s offense to a season-low nine points. The Boilers took the first strike on the scoreboard by kicking a field goal on their first possession; however they did not score again until the final play of the game. Hodges led the Lions with eight tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. With Hodges and the rest of the relentless Penn State defense, the Nittany Lions came out on top against the Boilermakers 34-9 and improved their overall record to 6-3.
This year’s "Ironman of the Game" winners have included Gerald Hodges previously for the Northwestern game, Allen Robinson (Southfield, Mich.) for the Ohio game, Michael Zordich (Youngstown, Ohio) for the Navy game, Matt McGloin (Scranton, Pa.) for the Temple game, Gerald Hodges (Paulsboro, N.J) for the Northwestern game, Bill Belton (Sicklerville, N.J.) for the Iowa game, Michael Mauti (Mandeville, La.) for the Virginia, Illinois, and the Ohio State games, respectively.
