Bernice M. Patrick, 83, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Clearfield Colonial Courtyard. She was born Oct. 18, 1929 in Indiana, the daughter of John Everett and Ellen Osiah (Rummel) Hill.
Upon graduation from Cherry Tree High School, Mrs. Patrick worked for Rural Electric of Indiana. Later, she worked for Brody’s, Hess and Fisher and in the guidance office at the Clearfield High School. Mrs. Patrick retired as a secretary from the administration office for the Clearfield Area School District.
Mrs. Patrick was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Friendship Club.
She had been active in several area clubs, including, NON, L.I.F.T., X.Y.Z. and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered her time at the Cottage at the Clearfield Hospital.
Mrs. Patrick is survived by three children, Pamela S. Gibson and Deborah K. Sherick and her husband, Timothy, all of Clearfield and William A. Patrick and his wife, Velva of Johnstown.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Scott A. Gibson and his wife, Melinda of Coal Center; Adam K. Gibson and his wife, Kristi of Kylertown and Andrew N. Gibson and his wife, Tina; Kristin A. Wriglesworth and her husband, Clair; Kimberly D. Durant and her husband, Thad; Lea J. Peters and her husband, Roger Peters Jr.; and Lane J. Foster and her husband, Matthew, all of Clearfield; Nathan T. Patrick and his wife, Julia of Potomac Falls, VA; and Jared L. Patrick and his wife, Elisabeth of York; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia C. McClelland of Pottsville.
Mrs. Patrick was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William S. Patrick, whom she married Oct. 27, 1948 and who died Dec. 25, 1993; two grandsons, Christopher Dale Gibson in 1972 and Micah Vogelsong Patrick in 1980; a brother, Robert D. Hill in 2010 and a son-in–law, Edwin A. Gibson in 2000.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the St. John Lutheran Church, 217 E. Pine St., Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert J. Way officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Honoring Mrs. Patrick’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. John Lutheran Church, 217 E. Pine St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or to the M.A.D.D. National Office, 511 E. John Carpenter Freeway, Suite 700, Irving, TX 75062 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
