CLEARFIELD – PennDOT plans to open the new Muddy Run Bridge late today. Crews have been working since mid-June to replace the old, structurally deficient bridge in Bigler Township.
The bridge spans Muddy Run on Route 2002 in the village of Smoke Run. Traffic should be on the new bridge by 6 p.m. Wednesday.
With the new bridge in place, a weight posting will no longer be necessary and area motorists will enjoy smoother, safer and more efficient travel across a modern structure. Once the new bridge is open to traffic, PennDOT will lift the detour that’s been in place since June.
Overall work has included bridge replacement, reconstruction of roadway approaches, drainage improvements, and guide rail updates. The bridge carries average daily traffic of almost 600 vehicles. Nestlerode Contracting Co. Inc., of Lock Haven has been the contractor on this $800,000 project.
