CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive. Shaw identified the fugitive as Barry Martell, 23, of Shirey Road, Frenchville. Martell was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Sept. 17.
On April 20 Trooper Adam Gibson of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield barracks filed a criminal complaint, charging Martell with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Gibson states that on April 5, the Pennsylvania State Police received a report about a theft from a coal site located on Knobs Road in Goshen Township. Upon investigation, it was found that Martell and two other individuals had unlawfully removed various pieces of equipment from the location valued at more than $35,000.
A preliminary hearing was held June 27, at which time all charges were held to court. On Sept. 6, Martell failed to appear for criminal call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
In a separate case, Trooper Matthew Peacock of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield barracks filed a criminal complaint on July 30, charging Martell with simple assault and harassment.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Peacock states that on July 28, the Pennsylvania State Police received a report of an assault at a residence on Shiloh Road in Bradford Township. Upon investigation, it was found that Martell had punched the victim in the jaw, causing him to go unconscious.
A preliminary hearing was held Aug. 22, at which time Martell failed to appear and all charges were held for court.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crime Stoppers provided the location of Martell. On Wednesday, deputies of the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Martell at a residence in Goshen Township. Martell is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
