Eugene “Gene” B. Tubbs, 80, of Curwensville died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born June 10, 1932 in Lumber City, he was the son of Singleton and Mary Elizabeth (Gearhart) Tubbs.
He attended the Clearfield Area High School and was a graduate of the Dubois Business College. He earned his degree in higher accounting and business administration.
Mr. Tubbs was a U.S. Army veteran and served as corporal of the First Calvary Division during the Korean War.
He served as Clearfield County Treasurer from 1987-1997 upon his retirement. He was also previously employed as a carpenter for Raymond Curry Construction, Stratten Motors, Therma Seal Cookware in Dubois, Philipsburg State General Hospital as a revenue collections agent, as the caretaker for the Curwensville Dam and Beard Oil Company.
He was a life member of the Rescue Hose & Ladder Company, past commander of the Curwensville American Legion Post #505, Noble Lodge #480 F&AM, Altoona Jaffa Shrine and Ecumenical Choir under Arch Johnstone.
He was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church, where he served at a past trustee, P.P.R member, assistant youth director, choir member, cherub choir director, Progressors Sunday School Class and was a part of The Search For Peace for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the Hoby Bell Band during the 1950’s for Polka & Square Dances and Grampian Square Dances with the last in 2012. He was also a member of the “Wonders Quarter”, “Bluegrass Gospel”, “Sassafras”, “Gene Tubbs and Friends” and Shriners String Band.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, music, family and friends.
On Sept. 14, 1956 at the Curwensville United Methodist Church, he wed Barbara Bowers, who survives along with three daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Bowser and her husband, Fred of Dubois; Tonda Beard and her husband, Doug of Curwensville; and Jacqueline “Jackie” Densmore and her husband, Michael of Leesburg VA.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Casey L. Linsenbigler and his wife, Amanda of Frenchville and Christopher W. Densmore of Leesburg, VA; two great-grandchildren, Jersey R. Linsenbigler and Rece T. Linsenbigler; two brothers, Charles Kenneth Tubbs and his wife, Louise of North Tonawanda, NY and Thomas M. Tubbs and his wife, Helen of Curwensville; two sisters-in-law, Donna Tubbs of Luthersburg and Emma Jean Horton and her husband, Curt of State College; and a former son-in-law, Dave Linsenbigler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Singleton Tubbs Jr.; two brothers, Dudley Earl Tubbs and Victor Duane Tubbs; and a sister-in-law, Delivene Tubbs.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Curwensville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Ludrowsky officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the Curwensville United Methodist Church.
A masonic service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be conducted at the church by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
