DUBOIS – Motorists who are traveling near the DuBois Mall in DuBois will see crews begin the next step of a project aimed at easing congestion and making for more efficient travel. Paving is set to begin on Beaver Drive and Shaffer Road on Monday, with work continuing through Tuesday.
Beaver Drive will be closed from Shaffer Road to Division Street between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. Business traffic to this area of Beaver Drive will be accommodated as work allows. Through traffic will be detoured on Route 255 and back to Division Street.
Shaffer Road traffic will be restricted at times during paving operations. Drivers should be alert for flaggers and changing traffic patterns on the roadway.
Delays could be significant at times during the work hours on both affected roadways. Drivers should proceed with caution, remain patient during delays and be alert for crews working along the roadway.
Overall work on the project includes roadway widening on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive, the addition of turn lanes for the Shaffer Road/Beaver Drive intersection, latex deck overlay for the Sandy Lick Creek Bridge on Shaffer Road, and signal upgrades.
PennDOT expects roadwork to be finished late this year, with signal upgrades scheduled for the spring of 2013. The contractor on this $1.2 million project is Francis J. Palo Construction Co. of Clarion. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
PennDOT reminds drivers that there will be travel delays along both roads and back-ups and wait times could be lengthy.
