The Mountain Laurel Kennel Club will earmark proceeds from its annual pie and bake sale Saturday during the Clearfield Fall Festival to help combat animal cruelty.
According to MLKC President Kelly Stilson, the club chooses a different cause each year to benefit from the sale. This year it is being expanded to include a variety of homemade baked goods in addition to homemade pies.
The funds will be donated to the Clearfield County SPCA to help pay for training and other expenses related to investigating cruelty reports.
Earlier this year, former state Dog Warden Harold Walstrom retired from his supervisory post with the state Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement and accepted the humane officer position for the SPCA.
“We are very fortunate to have Harold on our team and we are grateful to receive these funds from the kennel club,” said SPCA Executive Director Pam Smith.
The kennel club booth will be located near the Clearfield Pharmacy during the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
