CLEARFIELD COUNTY – This week will bring travel delays as work to replace a structurally deficient bridge about a mile south of the village of Curry Run continues.
The bridge spans Haslett Run on Route 219 in Greenwood Township. Replacing the bridge with a new composite beam structure will continue to shorten PennDOT’s list of structurally deficient bridges in Clearfield County. The new bridge will provide drivers with smoother, safer and more efficient travel across a modern structure.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, crews will be working to mill the temporary roadway tie-ins and place new guiderail. Once that work is complete, traffic will be switched from the temporary roadway to the new bridge. PennDOT expects that switch to take place late in the day on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Oct. 4, drivers will encounter short travel delays, as final paving takes place. During the final paving, flaggers will be in the roadway to control a one-lane, alternating traffic pattern. Drivers need to be alert for flaggers in the roadway during daylight hours. Traffic stoppages could last up to 15 minutes at a time.
Overall work on this replacement project includes construction of the new bridge and approaches, roadway paving, drainage improvements, and guide rail updates. All work is weather and schedule dependent. All work on the new bridge will be finished in early November.
The previous bridge was built in 1925 and carries average daily traffic of 3,100 vehicles. Clearwater Construction Inc. of Mercer is the contractor on this $1.3 million project.
