UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State junior Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) have earned weekly Big Ten honors for their performances at Northwestern and Illinois this past weekend. Hayes was named Offensive Player of the Week for her three goals and two assists this past weekend and Weber earned Co-Freshman of the Week for scoring one goal and adding an assist.
Hayes accumulated a total of eight points on the weekend with three goals and two assists in two contests. The junior has scored four goals in three games since returning to the Nittany Lion lineup after winning the U-20 World Cup with the United States two weeks ago. Hayes tallied two goals and an assist at Northwestern in Friday’s 4-1 victory over the Wildcats. She then went on to score a goal and assist at Illinois in Sunday’s 4-0 shutout against the Illini.
Weber totaled three points on the weekend as she tallied her sixth goal of the season at Illinois. Additionally she earned an assist at Northwestern on Friday. Weber earns her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor. The Michigan native is second on the team with six goals.
