UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Former Nittany Lion women’s soccer standout Megan Monroig has been added to the Penn State Track and Field/Cross Country staff, serving in the capacity of Director of Operations, announced by Director and Head Coach of Track and Field Beth Alford-Sullivan. Monroig will be involved with all the day-to-day administrative components of the Nittany Lion program, including in responsibilities in equipment, academics, and community service, as well as promotion of camps and clinics.
"I am excited to add Megan to our staff," said Sullivan. "The added support of an additional Director of Operations will play a significant role in our continued pursuit of success. Megan brings great administrative skills as well as a strong understanding of what her role is and what PSU athletics are all about."
As a four-year member of the women’s soccer team, Monroig was a part of four-straight Big Ten Conference titles, as well as a Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2008. Individually speaking, Monroig was named team captain in 2010 and was also the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award the same season.
"I am very excited about starting a new journey working with the Penn State men’s and women’s track and field and cross country teams," said Monroig. "Having graduated from Penn State and playing four years of soccer here, my heart lives in Happy Valley. I feel honored to now be a part of yet another very successful program here at Penn State. The pride and passion I see every day in these athletes makes me enjoy being part of this family."
Off the field, Monroig was a three-time Big Ten Academic All-Conference honoree, and was also a member of Penn State’s Student Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), and participated in the Athletic Director’s Leadership Institute (ADLI) from 2008 to 2011. She was also a member of the Nittany Lion Athletic Honor Society, Spiritus Leoninus. The Northumberland, Pa., native was also a dancer in the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) in 2010.
Monroig returns to Penn State with outstanding athletic administration experience on her resume, having worked as an Administrative Intern for the Region I Olympic Development Program. With Region I, Monroig organized and administered various camps and clinics, while also assisting in training sessions, and serving as an advisor for coaches in the region. She was also heavily involved in soccer camps while at Penn State, serving as a camp counselor for the Nittany Lions’ women’s soccer day and residential camps from 2008 to 2011.
"Megan also has great interpersonal skills that makes her a great representative of our program," continued Sullivan. "I am excited to work with her in all of her many responsibilities."
Most recently, Monroig was a Nursing Assistant at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. She graduate from Penn State in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
