CURWENSVILLE – The Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery will support cancer patients at its upcoming benefit for the Bri’s Angels Cancer Support Group. The benefit, “Love Strong Grape Stomp” will be held from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the winery. Admission is free.
“Cancer is a disease that has affected almost every family in our region. Everyone knows someone – a friend or family member – who has battled some form of cancer,” said Kenn Starr of Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery.
”The event is to help those in the midst of the battle and to strengthen their fight while honoring and celebrating those who have lost that battle. As a group, we can raise funds and awareness to help and aid in cancer prevention, treatment and grief counseling.”
The Grape Stomp will include teams that will stomp grapes to stomp out cancer. The event will feature wellness exhibits, vendors and a local author, etc. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Rum Dums of DuBois.
Attendees will also be invited to tour the winery and to sample fine wines made by the Starr family. This year, the family developed a signature wine with a Bri’s Angels label. The wine label was donated by Perry Winkler Galleries. A portion of these proceeds will benefit Bri’s Angels Cancer Support Group, Starr said.
Bri’s Angels was established in memory of Briana Cowder, 30, who lost her battle with cancer Oct. 23, 2007. The cancer support group is comprised of area cancer survivors and patients as well as their family members and close friends.
The purpose of the group is to offer families, friends and patients support and to lend an ear when someone needs to talk. New members are always welcome to the group and there isn’t any charge to the members. Meetings are held the second Thursday on a quarterly basis. They begin at 6 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Clearfield Hospital.

Each vendor is donating a prize that will be raffled off. Chances for those prizes will be available for purchase and these proceeds will be donated to Bri’s Angels. There will be a book signing gala by author J.S. (Jamie) Wilsoncroft.
“We are looking forward to a great turnout for the event. Those attending will have a great time that will be helping a worthy cause by stomping grapes, visiting the vendors, enjoying wine and food, and the live music,” the Starrs said.
