Van Parks Johnston, 82, of Clearfield died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at his home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1930, a son of the late Orvis J. and Lola H. (Parks) Johnston.
Mr. Johnston retired as a police officer in Fort Myers, FL after 29 years of service. Mr. Johnston and his wife, Barbara, subsequently retired back to their hometown of Clearfield.
He was a member of Glen Richey Greater Hilltop Presbyterian Church and the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #314, Clearfield.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Johnston served during the Korean War era.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Bumgarner) Johnston, whom he wed Jan. 15, 1956 in Clearfield; three children, Michael Johnston and his wife, Susan of Westcliffe, CO, Lisa Gundell and her husband, Don of Fort Myers, FL and Bob Johnston and his wife, Vel of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Freaney and Barbara Stewart.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Clearfield with Pastor Leanne Gill Peters officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Glen Richey Greater Hilltop Presbyterian Church, c/o Rev. Leanne Gill Peters, 2024 Carbon Mine Rd., Clearfield.
