UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Three members of the Penn State women’s golf team have been named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch, conference officials announced Tuesday. Senior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio), junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and sophomore Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec) were three of 36 players, three from each Big Ten institution, to earn a spot on the preseason list.
Ransone is back for her final season as a Nittany Lion. In 2011-12, Ransone competed in 26 rounds and averaged a score of 77.8. She followed up her junior season capturing the Delaware Women’s Amateur Championship in June and qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
After missing part of her sophomore season due to injury, Ceresko heads into her junior campaign on a roll after a great summer. Ceresko competed in seven rounds for the Nittany Lions last season and averaged 75.1. She returned to action this summer winning the Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship in August.
Archambault is poised for another outstanding year. During the 2011-12 season, Archambault played 29 rounds and finished in the top 20 on five occasions with an average of 78.4. Archambault was also active on the amateur circuit during the summer and captured the amateur championship at the Nivo Women’s Provincial Match Play Championship in August.
The Nittany Lions open the 2012-13 season this weekend at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Action begins Sunday, Sept. 9 and goes through Tuesday, Sept. 11.
