DUBOIS – A 23-year-old Falls Creek man, Austin G. Smith, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the Altoona Hospital for medical treatment following a motorcycle accident at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday on West Long Avenue in Sandy Township, the DuBois-based state police reported.
Smith was fleeing the Sandy Township Police Department for a traffic violation. He was traveling northbound and negotiating a right-hand curve in the roadway. He wasn’t able to negotiate the curve and traveled off the west berm, impacting an embankment.
The Smith motorcycle then became airborne and landed on its side, sliding through a grassy field. His motorcycle then impacted a small tree, spinning it counterclockwise approximately one-quarter turn. His motorcycle came to a rest on its left side.
Smith sustained moderate injuries as a result of the accident. He was using his motorcycle helmet improperly. He’ll be cited for the accident.
