LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – An 87-year-old Akron, OH woman died Aug. 27 due to injuries that she sustained in a single-vehicle accident Aug. 18 on Interstate 80 at mile marker 116 in Lawrence Township.
The Clearfield-based state police identified the woman as Vera G. Franzmann, 87, of Akron, OH. She died at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She was initially flown to the Altoona Regional Hospital with moderate injuries after the accident.
Margaret S. McClellan, 84, of Akron, OH was traveling in the left-hand lane when she apparently fell asleep. She lost control of her vehicle, which exited the roadway via the north berm and struck the guiderails. Then, her vehicle spun around before coming to a rest, facing west and blocking the left, eastbound lane.
Both McClellan and Franzmann were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. McClellan sustained moderate injuries and was flown to the Altoona Regional Hospital, according to a previous GantDaily.com report. An update wasn’t provided for McClellan.
