The Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation is preparing for its second Knight’s Victory Race, the Fun in the Mud 5K.
The race, which includes 10 obstacles, is inspired by the Spartan and Tough Mudder races and will be held Saturday, Sept. 29. The competitive heat begins at 10 a.m. followed by the non-competitive heat at 11 a.m. at Muddy Run Raceway, Smoke Run.
There will be cash prizes for overall male and female winners and a Knighting Ceremony by an honored guest. There will also be prizes for male and female winners in each age group. Other prizes will be awarded to competitors for costumes and a prize for overall best spirit.
The race can be completed at your own pace. For those who would prefer to walk, any participant may skip the obstacles. Some of the obstacles will include hay, logs, mud and water.
Participants are advised to arrive 30 minutes early for registration. Registration may be completed online or by printing out the required registration and waiver forms found on www.knightsvictoryrace.com or by calling Laura Mihalko at 814-378-7683 ext. 3137.
All monies raised benefit the Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, that benefits the Moshannon Valley School District.
The non-refundable early entry fee is $35 competitive and $30 non-competitive. Same-day registration is $40 competitive and $35 non-competitive. Pre-Registered participants are guaranteed to receive a special shirt.
Students and military will receive a $5 discount the day of the race. The Make-A-Wish Foundation will also benefit from the $3 parking fees. Spectators can watch the race for free.
An “After the Race Refreshment Tent” will be available for participants. Bottled water will also be supplied at the race. There will be a tent for changing clothes if necessary.
Nittany Racing Club, State College, will be timing the competitive heat and Best Insurance & Financial Group Inc. has been contacted for insurance.
This year, the race committee is pleased to announce South Hills School of Business & Technology, Penn State-DuBois and members of Biggest Losers, State College, are endorsing the race and will be sending participants to get muddy. Teams will be timed as individuals this year but can come in costume as a team to win prizes.
Jon Vickers-Jones, a professional storyteller, artist and creativity instructor with Castle Tales of State College will be joining the event. Stephanie Errigo Photography will also be present for memorable photographs, which may be purchased by participants.

Racers are encouraged to come hydrated, bring extra clothing and a towel. If you’re a spectator, bring your chair.
