WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Two truck drivers were transported for medical treatment after an Interstate 80 mishap at approximately 8:35 a.m. Thursday that detoured traffic near mile-marker 90 in Washington Township.
Firefighters said that one truck began slowing when a second truck struck its backend and jack-knifed. One truck was a car carrier; however, it wasn’t hauling any cars. The other, a tractor-trailer, was hauling steel.
Police said that both truck drivers were transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Firefighters said a car also sustained minor damage in the accident.
Jefferson County EMA director Tracy Zents told WJAC-TV a cleanup crew would be arriving at the scene. Officials said 100 gallons of diesel fuel had spilled onto the roadway.
“The only hazard posed by this is to the environment and if it gets into any waterways. That’s why we take precaution right off the bat. To stop its flow and to get it cleaned up as quickly as possible,” Zents said.
The Department of Environmental Protection will be responding to the scene.
