CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board heard the district’s preliminary results for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams at Monday night’s regular meeting.
The Clearfield, Bradford Township and Girard-Goshen elementary schools all achieved adequate yearly progress (AYP). Centre Elementary School missed AYP in reading; however, it achieved its mark in mathematics, said Bruce Nicolls, director of curriculum, instruction and federal programs.
Nicolls said the Clearfield Middle School reached all of its marks, with the exception of one. He said it just missed AYP in the low-income category, which leaves the middle school in “school improvement.”
“We gave around 2,100 PSSA tests and made every target but one category. It speaks volumes for our teachers and our staff,” said Middle School Principal Fred Redden. “They were disappointed about missing just that one.”
Nicolls said overall, the Clearfield Area High School missed its target in mathematics. In addition, he said it didn’t meet its targets for graduation rate and the low-income category. He said the high school remains in corrective action.
Nicolls will present a complete report at September’s board meeting upon final approval of the district’s PSSA results from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
