AUSTIN – The Sinnemahoning State Park has announced the following upcoming programs.
Friday, Aug. 31
6 p.m. – Wild Things – Dragonflies!
Join the park naturalist at the campground amphitheater for a program on Pennsylvania’s native dragonflies. This program involves a short walk to view and identify dragonflies and includes a children’s craft afterward.

Saturday, Sept. 1
3 p.m. – Eagles!
Join the park naturalist at the Wildlife Center classroom for a program on the current status of bald eagles in Pennsylvania and in the First Fork valley. The program will include a beautifully produced video presentation that follows the lives of a pair of bald eagles. Afterward, both children and adults can try their hands at making an eagle wing to take home.

7:30 p.m. – Season of the Bear
Meet at the campground amphitheater for an informative program and video presentation on black bears. Learn about characteristics, history and evolution of bears, as well as signs of bear aggression and ways to be safe in bear country.

Sunday, Sept. 2
12 p.m. – Interpretive Pontoon Boat Tours
Join the park naturalist for a relaxing and informative 45-minute tour of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir. This program focuses on the birds, plants and wildlife of lake and wetland habitats. The pontoon boat has 18 available seats. Tours are offered free of charge, but donations are accepted. Advance reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the park office at 814-647-8401. You may also sign up until 12 p.m. at the park office or at the Eagle Watch Station near boat launch area up until the time of departure. Rides begin at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 3
10:30 a.m. – Fish for Free!
Labor Day has been designated as a Fish for Free Day by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Meet the park naturalist at the boat launch area for some basic instruction on bait and casting, and spend some time plying the waters of the George B. Stevenson Dam for your favorite fish! The park has a limited number of rods and reels to loan on a first come, first served basis.

Saturday Sept. 8
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Birds n’ Brunch Specialty Pontoon Boat Tour
Join the park naturalist at Sinnemahoning State Park for a morning bird-watching pontoon boat excursion. Enjoy a light lunch on the boat, complete with tablecloths and music, as you cruise along the shores and wetland areas of the George B. Stevenson dam. Search the shoreline for herons, mergansers, kingfishers, and other birds that frequent the area. The excursion will conclude with a look at the park’s resident bald eagles’ nest site, and hopefully, a glimpse of these magnificent birds. Bring your camera! Binoculars and field guides will be provided. Cost is $20 per person, which includes a lunch provided by Costello Inn.
Pre-registration by Aug. 31 is required. Tours are limited to 10 people.
