Want to bet on a sure thing? Then, open your recipe box, pick your best chili recipe and enter it in the 15th annual Clearfield Hospice Chili Bowl.
Chili entries and donations are still needed for the fundraiser, which will be held from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield Driving Park.
The deadline for chili entries is Aug. 31. Individuals, restaurants, churches, physicians, community organizations and businesses are encouraged to lend support.
The theme for this year’s event is “Hail to the Chief” according to Dana Wilson, hospice volunteer/event coordinator. Mike Butler, past and present chili entrant, came up with this year’s theme.
“The Chili Bowl is a fun evening of competition, camaraderie, great activities and delicious food. But what’s most important is that it benefits a worthy cause – hospice – so every one who participates is a winner,” Wilson said.
Themed-baskets are raffled off during the Chili Bowl. These baskets, which contain a variety of items ranging from gift certificates, clothing, household goods, etc., are donated by individuals, businesses and hospital departments.
The baskets are on display in the Clearfield Hospital lobby from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Aug. 27 – Sept. 9 and from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sept. 10-14. The baskets will be at the DuBois Mall Aug. 23-26.
Wilson said proceeds from entries, and basket and food sales are used to help hospice patients. This year’s event will also feature a drawing for a bicycle donated by Jack’s Distributing, and the sale of T-shirts featuring the work of artist Joshua Wilson.
Wilson said last year’s proceeds helped 259 patients and their families pay for care and items not covered by insurance.
