Raymond C. “Ramon” Maruschak, 73 of Philipsburg died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born Jan. 26, 1939, the son of the late George P. and Jean L. (Wilson) Maruschak Sr. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg.
Mr. Maruschak was a 1957 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School and a graduate of the Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and corrections.
For 18 years, he worked for Conrail as a locomotive engineer. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served for eight years and received the Soldiers Medal (Medal of Valor).
He was also a 20-year member of the Army National Guard, Co. G, 728th Maintenance Battalion. He retired Jan. 26, 1999 and received the Commanders Commendation.
He was a life member of the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post 3450, Military Order of Cooties and West Brownsville American Legion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Philipsburg Country Club.
He enjoyed Camp Blue Ribbon with his friends, visiting friends at the VFW and playing golf. His major love was Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates.
He’s survived by seven siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Johns of Orville, OH; Pauline Knauf and her husband, Alvin of Glen Alan, IL; Rebecca “Becky” Maruschak and Anna Jeanette “Jenny” Maruschak and Tony Maruschak and his wife Yvonne, all of Philipsburg; William “Bill” Maruschak of Linglestown and Eugene Maruschak and his wife, Wendy of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James L., George and Andrew L. Maruschak and an Uncle Johnny Maruschak Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, with Fr. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant.
Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1 at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Grassflat.
