AUSTIN – The Sinnemahoning State Park has announced the following programs for Friday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 26.
Friday, Aug. 24
Bat Count
7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Join the park naturalist at the Dam Overlook Parking Area for an informative presentation on Pennsylvania’s resident bat species. The program will include a short walk to view and count bats as they exit the park’s bat boxes for their nightly forays and to listen to their echolocation calls through the use of a bat detector. This program also includes information on White Nose Syndrome, a disease that threatens to decimate these important and beneficial insectivores. Please dress appropriately for the field and cool evening temperatures.
Sunday, Aug. 26
Walk with the Naturalist
10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Meet the park naturalist at the Wildlife Center for a nature walk that is designed by you. Bring your questions, and select the subjects and areas of the park you would like to cover. A limited number of binoculars and field guides will be available for use. Please dress for the outdoors, including sturdy shoes. Insect repellent and sunscreen are recommended.
