LUTHERSBURG – A log truck lost control while traveling along Route 119 on April 25, 2011 in Brady Township.
The truck exited the roadway and ultimately impacted the Salem United Methodist Church in Luthersburg. Logs rolled off of the truck and struck the foundation of the church.
Once the building had been assessed, church members learned it would have to be demolished.
In March, construction crews held a groundbreaking for the new church. By May, they’d already started building the facility, which is currently set to open for its first service on Sept. 16.
Church member David Radaker told WJAC-TV that it has been a long road since April 20111, and they are all excited for the church’s doors to open. The new church has cost more than $500,000.
Radaker said that they have experienced an overwhelming response from the community with its fundraising efforts.
In an effort to help the church, Luigi’s Ristorante, DuBois, will be giving a percentage of its earnings on Aug. 19 to the church. Those interested can stop by for a meal between 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
